Win Free Home

Win Free HomeDavid Mackie, 49, decided to give away his £675,000 3-bedroom property in his house competition, 'Win Free Home'. He hopes to sell 14,000 tickets to give away his home in Hambleton, near Blackpool, before moving to Egypt.

Players need to buy a £50 ticket and solve a Sudoku puzzle to qualify for the prize.

The finance broker bought the property, which sits close to the River Wyre, in the mid 1970s. He reportedly spent £200,000 a year before launching the competition, to build 2 balconies, install new windows, a steam room and a sauna.

In total, he hopes to raise £700,000 to help pay for £25,000 legal and advertising costs to run the 'win a house' competition.

After delaying the competition for a few months, it was finally closed in February 2010. According to the statement on the website, Michael Beaver won the "cash pot" of about £33,299 with ticket 18FD24F28A33F441.

The detailed accounts published on the website (dated 26 March, 2010) indicate that a total of £55,000 was raised from tickets sales after taking into account ticket refunds. Based on a ticket price of £50, this corresponds to 1,100 tickets sold.

The total costs to run the competition amounted to about £22,200. This was broken down as follows: website fees (£3,435); advertising/PR (£5,280); legal fees (£9,048); HIP costs (£295); payment provider fees (£3,259) and accountancy fees (£881).
