| You could win a million dollar home in Cambridge, New Zealand for as little as NZ$25 (£10). Local pastor Murray Smith and his wife Michelle have decided to raffle off their house to help provide funds to build a new church and community centre in their home town. Buying a set of 6 Waipa District photos automatically enters you into the draw to win their family home, valued at around £435,000. The couple have already raised NZ$255,000 so far in the raffle, which closes at the end of January 2010.
The main house offers 5 bedrooms and comes with 2 self-contained guest accommodation units which can sleep up to 11 people. It overlooks Lake Karapiro - a watersports mecca and venue for the 2010 World Rowing Championships.
A choice of 6 photo sets can be ordered directly on the website, each of which comes with an automatic entry into the property raffle. All photos have been taken within a 5 minute drive of their home. In order to give the property away, the couple are hoping to sell at least 50,000 sets of photos in total. Ms
I think it's tremendous that you are doing this when there are so many hungry and helpless people in the world today. So many disasters and horrible things happening to people and cruelty to animals. This goes against all that is greedy and selfish and hopefully lights the way for people to have hope for the future of mankind to stop being so greedy and self-centred and to reach out to every man, woman and child on this planet to bring about the change that we so desparately need, which was Christ's vision and purpose on this earth. You two are living your life according to GOD's purpose which is something that very few accomplish in their time here on earth. Thank you for your selflessness Felicity

Dear all,
Many thanks for all your interest in the New Zealand house raffle over the last few days. We're pleased to announce that the competition is now closed with over NZ$1.2 million in tickets sold! Congratulations to Murray and Michelle Smith and good luck to everyone who entered this house raffle to support this worthwhile cause. |
The home is located in Waipa District, situated at the heart of New Zealand's North Island and a couple of hours south of Auckland. The region is renowned for its lush pastures, forests, iconic mountains and lakes.
In their own words: "We've been to parts of Africa, South America, Asia and the Pacific and seen with our own eyes how people live in poverty. [...] We don't see ourselves as being noble, but want to simplify our lives and invest in others with the time and resources we have left. It's been said that our practices display our priorities, and we hope our decision is an inspiration to others and perhaps challenges someone to consider their priorities and live generously. We can all make a difference in the lives of others, particularly those less fortunate."
