One competition organiser recently wrote to us asking that we share the following feedback with you:

Whilst checking the records and stats from their payment provider, they discovered that they had a large amount of entrants whose payments failed at the final hurdle. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including expired cards or incorrect card details entered. As a result, these would-be entrants went away without completing their entry.

Having already collected their contact details before putting them on the payment page, they could have contacted them to persuade them to have another go. Unfortunately, they only became aware of this after their competition had closed.

In their case, the failed entrants represented a much larger percentage than successful ones. As such, had they been aware of this information, they potentially could have sold more tickets by contacting failed entrants throughout the competition.

The advice, for anyone running a house competition or raffle at the moment, is to regularly check your payment provider stats to capture all possible leads at the final payment stage.
