| Tim and Zoe Bawtree's innovative underground family home was one of the most memorable projects featured on Channel 4's Grand Designs show. The couple successfully created their ideal three-bedroom eco-home by extending 60% of the building underground in their back garden. However, just six months after completing the £344,000 development, the Bawtrees have decided to give away the innovative house in a property prize competition. In return for a £25 ticket, players are required to submit their entry in the raffle by answering a question related to the Cheltenham Cup on the competition website. The property is estimated to be worth around £745,000 and the top prize (which includes furnishings, stamp duty and legal fees) is worth around £850,000. In order to raise £1,150,000, the couple are hoping to sell 46,000 tickets. With 10% of each ticket going to Teenage Cancer Trust, this would help raise up to £115,000 for charity. The competition follows the Oldborough Retreat Devon property competition, which saw Brian and Wendy Wilshaw successfully sell 46,000 tickets to give away their £1 million home. For more background information on the Cheltenham House development, you can also read the Grand Designs article on the Channel 4 website.

Subscribe to this comment's feedRe: Win the Grand Designs Cheltenham House I absolutely looove this house, I remember it from the Grand Designs show on C4. Now that it's been relaunched properly, I'm seriously considering entering the competition. I'm not sure if living in Cheltenham would be convenient for me, but I'd definitely be very happy winning this! Anyone else thinking the same thing? Re: Win the Grand Designs Cheltenham House @ chocolate sunday According to the news section on the Cheltenham House website (as of 5 February 2009), the current prize fund is set at £51,000. This amount is net of VAT, donations to charity and administrative costs and represents the amount that will be given away to the winner of the competitions if the targeted number of tickets is not reached by 19 March 2009. |
