Pixel Lottery
Following the success of Alex Tew's Million Dollar Homepage in 2005, a number of pixel lottery sites were set up to take advantage of what appeared to be a very simple way of making money online. A pixel lottery is usually based on advertisers buying a fixed number of pixel blocks on the homepage of a prize website, helping generate a prize fund for the competition. Players can enter for free in the hope of winning the top prize. They are usually required to perform some sort of action in order to be eligible for the prize, such as registering for other products, clicking ads or following other users on social networking sites.
