While charity sweepstakes giving away properties are commonplace in the U.S., we also regularly come across similar lotteries being run successfully in other countries. In Australia, charity real estate lotteries are a popular and effective way of raising awareness and funding for charitable causes.

The RSL Art Union Lottery , which benefits the local Veteran community, has been running property sweepstakes for over 10 years. Its marketing strategy is based on building new quality waterfront properties on the Queensland Gold Coast, one of Australia’s most desirable residential locations. So far, the RSL Art Union has given away $80 million in prizes ranging from luxury homes, cars and boats. This has helped the charity raise over $70 million to develop and maintain nursing and retirement homes, hospitals and centres. Each lottery features a fixed number of tickets and allows players to automatically subscribe for tickets by becoming a VIP member. In addition to welcoming players from Australia and New Zealand, the charity sells tickets worldwide (subject to local regulations).

The Mater Prize Home Lottery raises funding for the Mater Mother’s and Mater Children’s Hospitals by running regular property sweepstakes. Founded in 1954, the real estate lottery was the first of its kind in Queensland. Over the years, it has grown considerably, with plans to run six Million Dollar Home lotteries in 2009. Just like the RSL Art Union lottery, the Mater Prize Home lottery also runs a VIP membership programme and regularly gives away other prizes, including cars and holidays. The lotteries are popular in both Australia and New Zealand, making them an important source of funding for the charity.

The Surf Life Saving Lottery is designed to help support Queensland’s lifeguard community, by regularly giving away prizes. Although the SLS Lottery focuses primarily on giving away luxury seaside homes, players are also offered the chance to win cars, boats or cash prizes. In return for a $2 ticket, the charity is currently offering a selection of properties valued at $660,000.

I've come across a few of these in Oz but nothing in New Zealand?! I'd love to find a something similar right now I'm so far from being able to afford a mortgage might as well give it a shot!

Any kiwis out there? point me in the right direction please :)

Hi guys, I was told by someone on another website about the following raffle in New Zealand, just to share it with you :)

It's called the Heart Foundation Lottery (heart.org.nz) and they're giving away a $560,000 home in Papamoa.
