A new TV show on Channel 4, 'The Village' will give someone the chance of living the country life and ultimately win a home in the village itself. Last week, rumours suggested the village of Aberdour in Fife had been chosen as the location. According to recent reports, Grassington has been picked instead. If you fancy a change of lifestyle, there is still time for you to apply to be on the show. According to the Craven Herald, after being shortlisted as a possible venue for the show, the decision has been made to film in Grassington at the end of the summer. Researchers for Studio Lambert, the TV company producing the 8-part documentary style show on behalf of Channel 4, have reportedly already started interviewing locals about the concept.
The winners will win a house in Grassington and be given a chance to start a new life in the country. The show will seek to address concerns expressed by residents throughout the process of selecting a suitable village. Amongst other things, there may be an opportunity for local people to take part in the show, given that many cannot affort to buy a house in the village. Located in the Yorkshire Dales, Grassington is in fact a market town, rather than a village per se. Centred around its cobbled square is a selection of family owned shops offering quality foods, clothing, gifts, arts and crafts alongside cafes, restaurants and hotels. Grassington has a population of around 1,400 people. Filming is due to start at the end of the summer in July or August and the show will screen on Channel 4 TV next year. According to Jamie Isaacs, the production company's creative director: "Studio Lambert has identified Grassington as the preferred location for filming. We have also identified a property we wish to purchase in the village." If you would like to appear in the show and compete for a chance of winning a new home and life in the country, contact Caroline Stewart on 07957 158598. Alternatively, you can apply for the show online. Related items

A number of contestants will move into the village in the hope of becoming part of the local community. They will be given tasks to complete over several weeks in order to assess their "skills, civic values and neighbourliness". A panel of judges composed of locals from the village will decide on who will be voted off each week.
