Early this morning, 10,000 London commuters passing through Waterloo, Victoria, Liverpool Street, Paddington and Kings Cross St Pancras were handed out a total of £300,000 worth of prizes for free. To help promote the £8.25 million Win a London Pad property competition, members of the team wearing ‘Win a London Pad’ T-shirts handed out a secret codeword entitling the first 10,000 to check the website a prize.

Property developer MIA is hoping to accept up to 200,000 entries for its raffle, raising £600,000 in the process for Great Ormond Street Hospital by 2 March 2009.

Chanelle Hayes, star of the Channel 4 Big Brother TV show, appeared at Waterloo station to give away prizes to people heading to work, including MP4 players and £500 in cash.

In Chanelle's own words: "This giveaway is a fantastic idea - it's literally something for nothing. It's not surprising the public were really into it this morning!

"It's great to be asked to do this, Win a London Pad is a fab idea. Someone will win £8.25m worth of flats and a huge donation goes to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity - it's a no-brainer!"

A spokesman for Great Ormond Street Hospital said: "We were delighted to get involved. This will provide a fantastic boost to fundraising that will help thousands of children get the care they need. We're always looking for innovative ways to get people on board."

According to the press release on the Win a London Pad website, the first 10,000 people to claim their code by 7.30pm will win a prize. Good luck!
