Yet another UK win a house competition cancelled

UK win a house competitions remain seemingly difficult to pull-off. Many of you will have already read our earlier post regarding the status of a variety win a house competitions, and will have noted the large proportion of organisers that have experienced problems with their online payment providers.

It would seem that the latest house competition to be cancelled has also fallen victim to PayPal's use policy.

We noticed PlayWoopi.com about a couple of months ago and were impressed with the team behind it, the quality of their website, as well as their £1million house and £703,000 cash prize competitions.

The main reason we didn't report on it in our blog was that we also noted their use of PayPal to process payments, and didn't want to refer our readers to a competition we knew was likely to run into difficulty. As mentioned in an earlier post, we had received formal confirmation at the end of March that PayPal will not be processing payments for win a house competitions in the UK.

Nonetheless we cannot be certain about what might have caused PlayWoopi to cancel their competitions and close their website. They may well be back with a new payment provider very soon, and we wish them the best of luck.

Sadly, if indeed issues with Paypal were the reason for closing down, it could have easily been avoided, just by reading some of the posts here or asking someone in the community. Although unfortunate, it is also an example of how such pitfalls could be avoided, and reason more to share your insights with others on a website such as Win a House. After all most of the people organising these competitions are new to it, and experiences remain largely uncharted (or at least unshared), which is why sharing knowledge could be so effective!

And yes, of course organisers are in competition with eachother, but surely some level of cooperation would benefit everyone without making anyone worse off? The point is simply, let's share our insights.

A little ray of sunshine after the latest cancellation
Such a shame for the promoters. If they decide to re-launch at some point, I wish them luck.

It would be good to share some good news on house competitions and on a more positive note, the Devon property has posted un update on their site. It says that they will shortly be moving on to the next phase to bring the competition to its conclusion...

Now they haven't actually said that the Gambling Commission have capitulated but the implication is that they will be moving ahead to allocate a winner. I'm sure if the news were not good, then Brian and Wendy Wilshaw would have said as much, as they have always been very straight about the whole situation.

It may be that there has been some negotiating behind the scenes in order that the GC doesn't lose face but it looks as though there is certainly "light at the end of the tunnel". Good news for all of us, I reckon.
